Amur Maackia – Michael Dirr, tree expert author of Encyclopedia of Trees said this tree is “Unheralded and unknown except in the gardens of the fortunate few.” A great landscaping tree, Tower Hill Botanical Gardens has a beautiful specimen I fell in love with after seeing it covered in bees and other pollinators with its showy pea like fragrant flowers. Full sun to partial shade. Will tolerate some flooding and considerable drought. No serious pest or disease issues. Wood is dark brown, hard and rot resistant, commercially important in Japan and used for fence posts in China. Great patio, container tree, possible bonsai. Tough enough for windbreaks, and tolerates salt spray. From the pea family, a great addition to permaculture hedgerows. Grows to 40 feet and is a true gem. 6-12" large pot
